‘Exploded’ gives you an inside look at some classic gadgets
Austin’s Adam Voorhes goes through some interesting journeys through his photography. Lucky for us geeks, one such adventure intersected with the gadget world. Voorhes took apart and shot — in quite the dramatic fashion — some retro gadgetry including an Etch A Sketch and a vintage phone, as well as a gun.
Hate loud commercials? The MyVolume adapter quiets ‘em down
I don’t think there’s a single person outside of Madison Avenue who thinks loud commercials are a good thing. In fact, I’d say that if there were an easy way to quiet them down, everyone would jump at it. Well, a commercial muffler may have finally arrived in the form of SRS Labs’ MyVolume adapter , a small $99 plug-and-play box that connects to any cable or satellite box via HDMI (there’s also a version that connects with RCA cables).
An ‘indestructible’ car uses materials of the future
The Structural Skin car concept is a crazy rally-car-like vehicle that uses unique materials to make it, if not immune to damage, a lot more receptive to getting banged up a bit without showing any lumps. According to the designer, Chu Hyung Kwon, it’ll have a super-strong core that’s surrounded by more pliable materials, allowing it to have some give when it comes in contact with a hard object without damaging the interior. Rhet and Link used a whopping 222 specifically designed shirts, which, with some clever photography, brings all the action to life
Tesla coil, Australian for Christmas tree
Peter “Tesladownunder” Terren first experimented with the idea of making a Christmas tree out of a Tesla coil and some fancy photography back in 2007. He decided to go bigger and more colorful this year, and the results are pretty impressive. From Mr.

A Digital Magazine Without Links Is a CD-ROM
When the next generation of touchscreen tablet computers hits the market, one of its highly anticipated uses will be as a full-color reader for books, newspapers, and magazines. Of those three, the main beneficiary may very well be old-style magazines. The black-and-white Kindle doesn’t do magazines justice, and they never really quite translated to the Web. The magic of a magazine is all in the layout—the interplay of lush prose with stunning photography or standout illustrations.
